How To Fill a THC Oil Concentrate Cartridge Yourself

1

THC oil concentrates are one of the most popular and convenient methods for enjoying cannabis. If you have a THC oil concentrate, you’re either going to dab, ingest, or vape it. Since vaping seems to be one of the most convenient and popular ways of consuming concentrates, we figure letting everyone know how to fill their own cartridges might be beneficial knowledge.

It’s actually a very simple process that doesn’t take very long. Whether you’re someone just looking to fill their own carts, or you’re looking to mass produce many cartridges for distribution, we’ll show you each way so this tutorial can be used by anybody.

What You’ll Need

Supplies                              Options

THC Oil Concentrate            Terpenes

Cartridges                             Vape Pen Filler Machine

Syringe

Heat Source

Easily enough, filling cartridges is often done by hand or small machines that just about anyone can use. To fill one vaporizer cartridge with THC oil, you’ll pretty much just need the concentrate itself, the vape cartridge, a syringe, and a heat source.

The syringe will be for injecting the distillate into the cartridge reservoir and the heat source makes the distillate more fluid to make it easier to inject. Most oil cartridge filler machines act as both a heat source and an injection syringe and they can make the filling process much faster than a single syringe. But if you’re only filling your own, you probably won’t need one.

Terpenes are special additions you can add to distillate concentrates to give it back the aromas and flavors that were lost during the distillate extraction process. They can also loosen up thicker oils if needed. If you’re using a distillate, this is highly recommended.

Instructions

1. Unscrew your cartridge to get to the empty tank, most 510 threaded CCell and Liberty cartridges can be disassembled by twisting the components.

2. Warm your oil concentrate. There’s many ways to warm your concentrate from hot plates to filling machines. The viscosity of the oil will determine how much heat you’ll want to apply to it. The whole point of heating your oil is get it into a more fluid liquid form. For the most accuracy, a filler machine will likely be your best option.

Don’t go too hot, you can warm your distillate with indirect heat until it becomes easy to take in with your syringe. If you have cartridge filler machine, you should have the option to adjust the temperature of the oil within. Temperatures of around 100-140 degrees Fahrenheit are most common but will ultimately depend on your distillate.

Once your distillate has become a bit less viscous, you can add your terpenes. The amount to add is usually anywhere from 5% to 15% of the amount of distillate you’re using, so a little goes a long way. Your terpenes will also affect the viscosity of the oil as well. The more terpenes, the thinner your oil will come out. Stir the mixture to get an even distribution.

3. Once your distillate has been heated to a liquid form, you can extract the oil into your syringe and then inject it into the reservoir of your cartridge. If you’re having a lot of trouble, your oil may not be hot enough yet or not enough terpenes.

If you’re using a vape pen cartridge filling machine, you can pour your oil into the device and adjust the shot settings to the specific amount you would like for each cartridge. You can then inject the oil the same way you would with a syringe but a button or foot pedal will activate the shot instead and you’ll have the perfect amount. Most cartridges will either hold .5ml or 1ml of oil.

4. Once your cartridge is filled, you can cap them off with the same plastic caps they come with or seal it with a mouth piece. We recommend waiting about 12-24 hours to let the oil settle in and soak into the coils. After that, you’re done! You now have a perfectly usable oil distillate cartridge ready for vaping.

Conclusion

Filling distillate vape pen cartridges is relatively easy once you get the hang of it. We generally do not recommend reusing cartridges as they were made only to be used one time around and can break. This can become wasteful of your oil as well as dangerous.
